Hot Shots Golf = Color Swaps (UPDATED!)

Costume screens of Hot Shots Golf PS3 are starting to appear on Japanese forums. The bad news is that it looks like there is only one main outfit with multiple palette swaps. Some of the color options have designs making things a tad more interesting, but it’s still very disappointing.

RRXX DLC costume viewer (UPDATE: Link to site now added!)
Konami’s Rumble Roses XX costume updates descriptions have been cryptic to say the least. It was hard to know what you were getting until you or someone else bought it and posted a photo. Now you can see exactly what the new DLC will look like! You can only see the fashion results on Reiko though. Very cool!

(UPDATE: New item) Soul Calibur IV boobarama continues
This is getting embarrassing. Scans from Famitsu have hit the web (I grabbed this one off NeoGaf, but they are appearing on many other forums) that show off Sophitia and Casandra. They are, um...bursting. I'm also disappointed to see very minor changes to their outfits that don't involve making them more see-through or skimpier.

Hi there. I'm portuguese and found out about your blog today (bummer...). It is really cool and original that someone discusses about videogames characters costumes. You can mix videogames and fashion, wich are two things that I love. I have blog with some draws of possible female characters of videogames (http://fabiosbox@blogspot.com). Check it out if you can.

Ops, sorry about the all mistakes. The correct address of my blog is http://fabiosbox.blogspot.com

That costume viewer is a website or can only be accesed within the game/xbox dashboard?

If it's the former mind sharing a link?

The costume viewer is on the official website, but it apparently doesn't load with Firefox.

Oops, I forgot to put in the link. Fixed now. Yeah the viewer only loads for me on IE.

It's not like Rumble Roses and DOA- those are pretty up-front about using the sex appeal to hook people initially, in the hopes that they will stick around for the gameplay (and yes, I know it's a stretch in the case of Rumble Roses, but I am happy to have a wrestling game where I don't have to look at sweaty men in spandex for once).

Soul Calibur is a well-respected, popular series. People already liked it for the gameplay, and they liked Ivy and Sophitia and Cassandra as they were.

Sure, the costumes can't be left exactly the same from game to game, but the changes documented here just push it over the top.

Poor Sophitia is no longer the chaste girl-next-door she used to be. I thought she was a maiden until she got married, and as far as I can remember, she was always true to her husband. The peek-a-boo look does not suit her character at all. She's not Tifa, after all. And Ivy in the earlier post now looks like she'd have trouble standing, much less swinging a blade.

I'm not saying that female characters must be unattractive, but Ivy, Sophitia, and Cassandra were "hot" enough already. It's all a matter of context.

Well... sex sells, right?
Having said that, I really don't see how this will help Namco-Bandai convince the general public that the "hardcore" beat'em'up genre isn't anything but dead. This looks more like a defeated bow of the head, where they finally decide to just give the last game's fans what they want (fanservice).
Oh well. Here's looking forward to SC Legends!

It's just...off to me, though your comment about "bowing out" makes sense, kiki.

I meant "Tira" before, btw (the crazy assassin chick with the ring-shaped weapon), not "Tifa."

Yeah I was also thinking that the decline of mainstream interest in fighting games is a big reason for the amping up of teh sexy.

If nothing else, they'll be able to rake in lots of extra money in sexier downloadable content.

Hunted around for a submit form, but couldn't find one save for a comment. Saw the game http://www.fuzzyeyes.com/html/hotdogs/ and wanted to see your opinion on it. (no I don't work for them, I just follow your blog and like your reviews).

WRT Soul Calibur IV, I guess we just have to hope for equal treatment and the guys get similarly altered costumes. Right?

It's an interesting concept. How much I might enjoy the game depends on how they reward creative clothing creations vs just showing more skin.

The last news update on this game was in late 2004. Wonder if it's still coming?
