Completed! Part 1: PlayStation 4

Watcha been playing? Here’s what’s been completed or in progress at GET central the past year or so:

Image from PS Blog
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – I’m amazing how great this game looks and how sharp it is at 1080p 60p. Really cool armor and weapon upgrades that can be customized further. Took me several months to get through, but I loved every minute of it. CS score – A

Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition – After completing Diablo III, I was still in the mood for some top down action. Although not a loot fest, still quite a fun shooter with interesting weapon upgrades. Awful looking armor though. CG rating – C

Dragon Age Inquisition – The first Dragon Age game still had the best story and characters, but this one is a close second. Huge world although it felt like a lot of quests are of the filler variety. Decent costume factor although it was really tough to make an attractive face. CG rating – B

Onechanbara Z2 Chaos – Much more polished and fun than the last Onechanbara game I played which was Bikini Samurai Squad on the 360. Story is wacky in a good way, but the level design is just awful. The Strawberries and Banana DLC costumes are insane and there are a lot of costume pieces to unlock. CG rating – C+

Resident Evil 2 Revelations – The first Revelations was quite good, but I liked this one a lot more. The story and gameplay felt like a return to old school RE and it was cool to see Barry back. The length was just right too and I will eventually go back to play the raid modes. It just needs more costumes to unlock. CG rating – B-

Dead or Alive 5: Last Round – I’ve been fairly conservative with the costumes I’ve purchased. Mostly picked a few here and there for the characters I play the most. Buying costumes still feels unsatisfying to me though. CG rating – Still in progress, but about a B at this point.

Cyber Monday GET!

I picked up three hot items on my wish list thanks to the multitude of PSN promotions, the co-op sale, Black Friday deal, and the 10% off your total order coupon.

Picked up The Witcher 3 ($22.50) , Deception IV: Nightmare Princess ($22.50), and Hotline Miami 2 ($6.75).

Unfortunately it was too early for a Fallout 4 deal. I did decide to pass on Ultra Street Fighter IV. I just would not play it much and SFV is not that far off.

The PSN sales end sometime tonight and the 10% off coupon expires tomorrow 12/1.

Happy shopping!

Ultra Street Fighter IV sale

Even cheaper if you have PS Plus which sadly I do not currently.

Ultra Street Fighter IV, which is one of the games on my black friday watch list, just went on sale along with a host of other PSN titles. There is also a 10% of your total order code that is good till 12/1. I'll keep USFIV in my cart for now and wait for more sale festivities on friday so get maximum discount code value. Come on Fallout 4 sale! You can do it!

I just upgraded to a 2TB hard drive so it's totally ready for a digital download extravaganza.

Black Friday videogame price watch

I should be done with Legacy of the Void or close to it by the end of next week and that means looking out for good gaming bargains!

Fallout 4 PS4 – I’m trying to wait as long as possible so more bugs can be patched. The best thing woul be to wait for a Game of the Year edition with all the DLC, but I’m such a huge Fallout nerd that it’s taken every ounce of will power to have sat out the launch. $30-40 will push me over the top. That will take some of the sting off the season pass. Of all the games listed, this has the highest costume potential although I will eventually end up in power armor most of the time. Haven't decided yet whether to play as male or female. Played Fallout 3 male and New Vegas as female.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 PS4 – Hoping for a PSN sale on this one since I won’t play it a ton. SF4 is the only installment of the series I don’t own. Guess that's not a great reason to purchase it. Maybe cross this one off then...

Wasteland 2 Directors Cut PS4 – My kickstarter version was upgraded to the DC for free, but my Mac was already struggling running the game with decent fidelity. I can’t imagine how it will handle the upgraded DC requirements. I think this will be fantastic on the PS4 and it will look a lot better than on my Mac as well. Since this is a double dip, I’m waiting to get this on sale from it’s current asking price of $39.99. Half that and I’m sold.

Deception IV: Nightmare Princess PS4 – I owned this on the Vita, but the small screen size was a huge hindrance for a game where you need to lay intricate traps while keeping an eye on your victim(s). I ended up selling it early enough where I recouped a decent amount of money since I knew I wanted the game on PS3 eventually. The Nightmare Princess is the obligatory PS4 re-mastered version complete with added content. Glad I waited. Now I just have to wait a little longer for this to go on sale.

Star Wars Battlefront PS4 – It’s been talked to death already regarding the relatively thin content and the outrageous season pass, so I’ll simply just say if this goes on sale for $30 or less I’m totally there.

The Witcher 3 PS4 – I’m actually on the fence about this because I’ve kind of had my fill of fantasy with doing Dragon Age and Diablo III back-to-back. Also the second DLC is not expected until the first half of next year and that sounds about the right time to get into the game.

Any other hot titles folks are waiting for sales on?

New Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 trailer

Within moments of my previous post, I received an email alert that Tecmo Koei Japan released a new teaser for DOAX3. No huge surprises expect that at least one of the bikini strings can become undone and the girls will use their hands to keep it in place. It also shows off more of the soft engine 2.0.

We’re back!

After quite a hiatus, what has spurred some action again? The short answer is the talk about upcoming release of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 (at least in Asia). The Dead or Alive series is one of the cornerstone franchises for CostumeGet and I was particualarly obsessed with the original Dead or Alive Xtreme. Since that original release, the world of costumes unlocking has totally changed.

Can’t put DLC genie back in the bottle
Dead or Alive used to be the king of unlockable costumes, but they have now gone full bore with DLC. As much as I dislike this trend, I do think that it’s really a matter of survival for franchises like this. The market for fighting games is much smaller now and continues to shrink. The emphasis now is on the competitive circuit and tournament play, which suits titles like Street Fighter or Tekken. Not so much DOA.

After milking DOA5 for the past three years, it was only a matter of time for DOA to return to the beach. The question is what will we get in the main game and how much will be DLC? Unlike the DOA fighting games, unlocking, purchasing (with in-game currency), and gifting swimsuits is a big part the Xtreme series gameplay. You develop close relationships with your partner by spending time with them and giving and receiving gifts.

The following are my main concerns and questions:

1. Paid swimsuits may break the game
This is the big one. Can you only purchase (with real money) swimsuits for the character you play as or can you gift those to your partner? If you can gift to your partner, is it possible they can still reject it? OR do real money swimsuits get accepted automatically? If only the character I play as gets the suit, does it appear in her inventory when I play as another character and select her as my partner? I mean I paid for her to have it right? Hopefully this gets answered before the game comes out. Speaking on which…

2. Will the game come out for other territories other than Asia?
This is virtually guaranteed to come out for all countries eventually. No way Team Ninja leaves that money on the table. In my opinion, this is a way for them to double dip. The super hardcore will buy the region free Asian release with English subtitles and then will be forced to double dip when the domestic versions come out with more features. Don’t believe any of the bull that only the Asian version will be uncensored and US or European releases will be cut in some way. That’s not the way Team Ninja works. They will pack in more in the US and European releases so they force the Japanese audience to double dip too. It will be a double dip party.

I’ve been mulling over purchasing the Asian version myself, but then I ‘m reminded of my purchase of the Asian version of Onechanbara Z2 Chaos for PS4. The chances of a US release seemed extremely slim at the time and if there was any piece of DLC that would have to stay in Japan, it was the Strawberries and Banana DLC outfits. It is WAY out there. Fast forward a few months and sure enough Z2 Chaos is released in the US AND came with the Strawberries and Bananas DLC. The day the news broke that Z2 Chaos was being released in the US, my Asian copy went on eBay. I’m not repeating that same mistake again.

As for claims that the Asian version of DOAX3 will have swimsuits too skimpy for the west, have you seen all the DLC outfits for DOA 5 Last Round? Things don’t get skimpier than that.

US release prediction
The US version will be unveiled at E3 2016 with a late summer release. That gives the JP/Asian release three months of sales along with whatever crazy season passes they muster for it. There will be pre-order bonuses split among retailers, but a special/limited edition is highly unlikely. So if you wanted an embarrassing mousepad, posters, or playing cards, you are free to purchase the Asian versions. I won’t judge if you do that. Flashing back to my DOAX1 playing self, I totally would have done it.

Summer 2016 or bust!

This may all sound a bit cynical and it mostly is. However, I’m still pumped for DOAX3 and it’s going to be painful to wait for the US release. I’m hopeful we’ll see some innovation the series deserves like walking around the casino, maybe free walking around the island, seeing your players sitting at the poker table or slot machine, or whatever. My late summer release prediction is also based on the release of the PS4 VR headset. Would be a good way to get some free promotion for the game when Sony begins their big VR push.
