I think the new cartoon-y look seems rather cheap in appearance compared to Ayami Kojima's work.
The new stuff is just rather sad to look at.

well its not like they had a choice in the matter >.< the artist retired from doing the cover arts and stuff.cures of darkness was the artist last piece to konami so we won't see anymore gothic art until they can the one destroying the true feel of castlevania and lets all pray that they do and they get on there hands and knee's to get there old cover artist back T_T

I suppose what they mean is 'cartoony' in general....

I suppose what they mean is 'cartoony' in general. It no longer looks deep and moody.. It's hard to take it serious when it looks like something you'd expect out of a Saturday morning cartoon.

Castlevania symphony of the night was the best by far, and Alucards costume is the best , who can beat a hero vampire half human half vampire with a long black cape and fighting for justice? can u say Angel or Vampire hunter D how cool is the concept of vampire kings son fighting evil in classic cape and sword slinging action, and to boot the cape glows red and black

There was an interview somewhere, I think it was a strategy guide for one of the recent games, where Iga said that they wanted a more anime look to appeal to the younger audience that is associated with handhelds, but that Kojima would continue to design for the home console games.

I agree with you there. I like the gothic sensibilities of the art style of the past Castlevania games. It really fit the theme. Now it looks like a generic anime series. Not even a game.
